FOC Hocket script for Logic Pro
FOC Hocket is a MIDI channel hocketing script designed for Logic Pro’s Scripter plugin. It dynamically redistributes incoming MIDI note events across multiple channels using one of four distinct patterns—Up, Down, Ping-Pong, or Random—allowing for creative, multi-timbral performance setups and layered sound design.
Hocketing is a musical technique in which a single melodic line is split between two or more performers, creating an interlocking, staggered effect. One performer plays or sings a note, then pauses while another performer fills in the gap with the next note or phrase, creating a rapid back-and-forth pattern.
Origins and Use: -
Medieval and Renaissance Music: Hocketing was commonly used in the 13th and 14th centuries in European polyphonic music, particularly in the works of composers like Pérotin and Machaut. -
Gamelan and African Music: Similar interlocking techniques are found in Balinese gamelan music and various African musical traditions, where different players contribute alternating notes to create a continuous melody. -
Contemporary and Experimental Music: Modern composers and electronic musicians have adapted hocketing for new contexts, including digital music production and live looping.
Example of Hocketing: If a melody consists of the notes C-D-E-F-G, a hocketed version might be: - Performer 1: C (rest) E (rest) G - Performer 2: (rest) D (rest) F (rest) This technique creates a rhythmic and textural interplay that enhances the complexity and dynamism of the music.
